About three kilometers from Senaki, on the way to Martvili, Shkhepi castle rises from the hill, leaving a grandiose impression on the viewer. The castle has three huge towers, each with a different roof – a cylindrical, a pyramidal and a Svan roofing - which is rare for Georgia at that time. The courtyard of the castle boasts a stone tank – a masterpiece of a hydro-technical solution – where the water flows upwards from the bottom, through a series of communicating pipes. Shkhepi Castle also played an important role for the Samegrelo Principality, and the Dadiani often used it as a prison.
